Be Part Of The Solution – Not The Problem!

Our objective is to create a comprehensive Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge (BoK) that is universally recognized as the industry standard. This ambitious effort is ongoing, and we strive to continuously update and improve the BoK with the input and collaboration of practitioners from all industries. Our ultimate aim is to establish a clear and transparent framework for Lean Six Sigma training and certification, guided by community participation and oversight.
Problem: Where's The Beef!
From an academic perspective, a thorough Body of Knowledge (BoK) is crucial in establishing standards for practitioners and trainers. However, upon examining various BoKs, it becomes apparent that some lack the necessary level of specificity and taxonomy to be useful in guiding certification and training programs. For example, the attribute MSA is simply listed as a bullet point without any explanation of what knowledge or skills are required at what level of proficiency. This ambiguity is not conducive to accountability, as it is difficult to hold practitioners and trainers to a generic bulleted list. Some organizations even accredit others based on these vague BoK’s. As such, it is essential for a comprehensive BoK to provide detailed descriptions of each knowledge element to effectively guide practitioners and trainers.
Solution: Enter The Matrix

Our Wiki BoK is the ultimate solution to the long-standing problem of the lack of clarity and specificity in other BoKs. Unlike other BoKs that simply provide bulleted lists that are open to interpretation, our Wiki BoK offers a comprehensive and detailed summary of the knowledge requirements at all levels. The matrix format we have purposefully crafted ensures ease of use and accreditation, making it the key tool for individuals and organizations seeking certifications and accreditations. Plus, our mistake-proof process enables us to offer accreditation services quickly and at low prices.

The advantages of using our Wiki BoK matrix are numerous:

Why standardize the BoK?
Why now? Why this approach?

Problem: The 1990's Called And Want Their Curricula Back

DISCLAIMER: We can only scratch the surface in the following section of how much has changed and is now incorporated (or swapped) in the Wiki BoK.

From our experience, we have noticed that our competitors’ BoKs are still stuck in the past, with a heavy focus on memorization of formulas and manual calculations. This is a waste of precious time and resources, and does not align with the needs of modern practitioners in the field of Lean Six Sigma. In contrast, our Wiki BoK is comprehensive and up-to-date, with a focus on practical knowledge and skills that are relevant and applicable in today’s workplace. We prioritize understanding the logic behind the formulas, how to interpret and manipulate data, and making sense of vast amounts of data to solve complex problems. With the Wiki BoK, our clients can rest assured that they are receiving the most relevant and effective training and certification available.

Practitioners need to know:

1.

The logic behind the formulas – garbage in, garbage out.

2.

How to translate and interpret data – make it meaningful for analysis and decision-making.

3.

How to interact with data – setting up and manipulating data is half the battle.

4.

How to make sense of vast amounts of data – what data is required, for what reason and how will this help solve the problem?

Solution: Welcome Back To The Future

The Wiki BoK has been updated to address modern challenges and tools available in industries that have evolved over the last few decades.

1.

Agile Project Management is important to LSS because it allows for quick adaptation to changing project requirements and customer needs.

2.

Machine Learning is important to LSS because it enables data-driven decision-making and automation of routine tasks.

3.

Artificial Intelligence is important to LSS because it enables more sophisticated data analysis and predictive modeling.

4.

Intelligent Automation is important to LSS because it reduces human error and frees up time for more value-added activities.

5.

Big Data is important to LSS because it provides more data points and insights for analysis, leading to better decision-making.

6.

Digital Transformation is important to LSS because it enables the integration of new technologies and tools into LSS methodologies.

7.

Including other relevant tools and technologies is important to ensure that LSS remains relevant and effective in solving real-world problems.

Problem: One Size Does Not Fit All

One of the major problems with current BoK’s is that they lack consistency and flexibility, treating every industry and culture the same with no room for customization. The Wiki BoK addresses this issue by providing a solution that is adaptable to each industry’s unique needs and requirements.

Solution: Receiving an "A" Is Not Necessarily The Best Grade

In order to obtain accreditation, organizations must achieve a minimum score of 80% on the BoK Accreditation Crosswalk Score (BACS). However, a higher score does not indicate that one organization is superior to another; rather, it indicates that the organization has aligned with more knowledge elements and required less customization to serve their specific industry or clients. While it is possible to score 100% on BACS while aligning with customer requirements, it is rare and not mandatory. In short, a score of 80% on BACS is adequate and allows for flexibility in customization, and should not be considered a ranking system when searching for partners or providers.Wiki BoK standard is that any person certified through Wiki BoK proves mastery of at least 80% of the knowledge elements. The logic is that each industry and/or organization will have certain requirements that make sense for them. Traditionally this was seen as an obstacle because all LSS candidates should be trained the same way…right? Wrong!

The authors of the Wiki BoK understand the importance of balancing flexibility with standardization when it comes to accreditation, and their approach is encapsulated in the motto “we customize, but we don’t compromise.” This means that there is room for customization to meet the specific needs of clients without compromising on the overall standardization of the accreditation process.

It’s often argued that we should teach all possible knowledge elements just in case they might be needed someday, but this approach doesn’t make sense as it wastes time and resources. Clients and employers don’t want to pay for unnecessary or unlikely-to-be-used knowledge. The purpose of Lean is to reduce waste, and this is exactly what the Wiki BoK is doing by only including knowledge elements that add value from the customer’s perspective, thus creating value for the customer regardless of their industry or background.
